Tips on saving money at the grocery store
Everybody likes to save money. So here are some tips on how I save money at the grocery store.
I think everyone will agree that the most important tip is to never go to the grocery store hungry. You will buy more if you do. So I always eat a light meal before I go.
I avoid items on the shelves that are eye level. These items tend to be higher in price than the items on the lower and higher shelves.
I always buy store brand items. Their cheaper than the name brands. Plus many of the store brand items are actually made by the same manufacturers of the name brand items.
I always check the local grocery store sales papers before I go. That way I know exactly whats on sale.
I know where everything in the store is. So become familiar with your store. If you know where everything is you can avoid the aisles you don't need to go down. That way you avoid impulsive shopping.
I always make a list of the items I need before I go. And I usually stick to the list and only buy whats on it. Also if your familiar with your store you can organize your list to the way your grocery store is organized. For instance, most grocery stores, when you walk in you pass the produce first. So if you need produce, that would be the first thing on your list. Again, this helps to avoid the aisles you don't need to go down. Again, reducing impulsive shopping.
I clip coupons each week out of the Sunday paper. Some stores double your coupons. Any coupon that's 50 cents or less will be doubled. So if you have a 50 cent coupon you would actually save a dollar on your item.
I always go to the grocery store alone. If someones with you they tend to throw things into your cart that's not on your list.
